My name is Sara Mitchell and I am a Covington-Douglas graduate. I was very happy to return to my hometown after several years of being away. I have a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Oklahoma, although I attended Oklahoma State University for three years prior to that. I’m a Cowboy at heart!
After graduation I worked for the Department of Human Services as a Child Welfare Specialist. While I was there I realized I could make a bigger difference in children’s lives if I was in the classroom with them on a daily basis. I began the process at that time to become a teacher. I am beginning my fifth year working at Covington-Douglas and this is my third year as the first grade teacher. I love teaching and am truly blessed to have a job that I am excited about and love going to everyday!
Every child deserves a teacher who provides a classroom where they are able to succeed. It is my goal for them to love school and feel safe. Together we can do anything! I am trained in Literacy First, a program that aims to significantly improve the reading achievement of students. I enjoy attending professional development, love to read about ways to improve the classroom and student success, and collaborating with other teachers.
My classroom door is always open. If there is anything I can do to help you and your child please do not hesitate to let me know!
